Positioning, Not Prospecting

Plan Your Move

Plan Your Move

Have you  noticed that the weakest link in the selling chain for most sales people is prospecting? Many people can do at least an adequate job of presenting their products or services, if there are some interested prospects in front of them.  But most people I know simply hate prospecting. Most of the time they avoid it and only do it when absolutely necessary and when they do, do it poorly.  To me there is nothing worse than spending time talking to people who are not interested or not qualified to say yes even if they could say yes.

What you need to do is to focus on positioning. By positioning yourself, you attract qualified prospects who want to find out about you and seek you out to obtain your expert assistance in solving their problems. That is important because when you go to prospects and present yourself, many times they have their guard up or don’t want to listen to what you have to say.  However, when somebody discovers you and takes the initiative to seek you out for your expert assistance, then that person could possibly be a potential customer.

As a small business, sometimes you need to break some of the rules. For example, put your web site onto everything. Mention your advertising in your direct mail. Get some T-shirts and put your website on that. Use the front and back of your business cards to promote yourself. Remember to plants the seeds of your offering with various kinds of marketing.

Here are some low-cost but highly effective marketing tips to help any small business find customers and generate sales quickly.

1. Big businesses advertise to create name recognition and future sales. A small business can’t afford to do that.

2. Some prospective customers are not willing to pay the asking price for your product or service. Offer various packages so that no one is left out.

3. Not all customers are looking for a cheap price. Many are willing to pay a higher price to get a premium product or service.

4. Wear a name tag that will that describes a benefit that you offer so the prospective customer will ask more questions about your service.

As you know prospects are like you except that they’re probably doing business with one of your competitors. And in order to compete with your competitor, you most follow up because your competitor’s most likely don’t know the meaning of follow-up, and that’s where you get your biggest advantage. By not following up most customers feel ignored after the sale. I have seen it happened and I have felt it as well when sales get low.

Remember your customers are your best prospects. That’s why being a maverick marketer you should identify your ideal client and then begin the relationship process. It is a relationship building process with that in mind, you can transform them into customers.

Mastermind

The concept of the Mastermind Group was formally introduced by Napoleon Hill in the early 1900′s. In his timeless classic, “Think And Grow Rich” he wrote about the Mastermind principle as:

“The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony.”

Want to take your business to the next level? Then a mastermind group could be your ticket. One of the best ways to get on-going coaching with a group of like minded individuals, professionals and small business owners.

You can start out sharing an issue, success or breakthrough and this can be a personal or business example. The group can also focus on an area where members may need support. The Mastermind Group’s purpose is to be there and to keep the group focused, motivated and inspired.

Sometimes it helps to bring topics to discuss and share with others. All members should be able to bring something to the table in the way of expertise.

Make sure your Mastermind Group has a purpose because some mastermind Groups meet for various reasons. Some meet as a support group, as a networking group or as some secret member group. Be very clear on what you’re trying to accomplish. The more specific you are, the more productive you’ll be.

The best part of Mastermind Groups is that participants challenge each other to create and implement goals, ideas, and support each other.

Knowing that there is a group of professionals who make a bid deal about when a member have a success, or a solution when a member is struggling, or who help a member sort things out when feeling overwhelmed means so much to the group. Most members are sure that they would not be as close to reaching so many their goals without this group. Join me for a 30 day Free Membership at Smart Business Empower

Direct Marketing

What is Direct Mail Marketing and how can you use it effectively to grow your business.

First of all direct mail marketing is one the most common form of marketing used today. True marketers have used direct marketing for many many years or even decades to be specific. It is, however, a proven method of marketing.

I guess you are wondering how do I use direct marketing to my advantage to grow my business. Well let’s take a look at it. For one thing, direct marketing can be a powerful tool and an addition to your current marketing program. But it does require quite a bit of research and planning to do it right.

For example understanding direct mail lead generation, direct mail lead generation is the most effective and profitable means to increase your monthly volume, and until you have an affordable, efficient and dependable means of attracting a sufficient flow of qualified buyers to you, you cannot any money, you will be frustrated and you certainly won’t be able to stay in business long. However once you understand those things, the benefits of direct mail marketing is powerful. Marketers have been using direct mail for decades, simply because it works. Direct mail marketing is a proven medium with a long history behind it. Because of this, direct mail marketing has its own set of best practices you can learn from. Even though direct mail marketing can be very effective in providing cost-effective leads to let’s say a marketing coach, it’s not as easy as it appears to be! Because direct mail doesn’t work as well as it used to because there is so much of it and because people have learned to ignore it.

The way I see it the biggest problem with any advertising today is that you have to fight for people’s attention by interrupting them. There’s too much going on in people’s lives for them to be interrupted. Everybody is busy these days. Even though more businesses are using direct mail, it can be less effective as well. Direct mail is a victim of its own success.

More small businesses are using direct mail, but fewer people are responding. But, when direct-mail works, it’s unbeatable! If you can find the right formula for your specific needs, direct mail can be magical.

That’s why I use postcards. Postcards are the least expensive way to do direct marketing for immediate results. I currently do direct marketing of postcards before I do any other type of direct mail marketing. I have found that prospective clients take notice, it is to the point and keep it longer than a letter.

When you use direct mail postcards as part of your marketing program, you should strive for constant improvements and higher response rates. Here are the steps involved in doing a direct mail marketing campaign.

  1. Start with an idea
  2. Get a good list
  3. Have a good headline
  4. Niche your postcard
  5. Make sure your message is clear
  6. Have one or more ways to sell your product or service
  7. Have a call to action
  8. Add an incentive
  9. Track your results

Hope these tips were helpful for your postcard direct marketing campaign

Take Charge of Your Accounting

As I go around working with many small business, I am beginning to notice that a lot of small business don’t want to deal with their accounting. Well that’s not unusual, but what is frightning is that many small business don’t even know what their financial status is. They leave it totally to the accountant or the bookkeeper. That’s not good.

Wake up people, you need to know where your money is going. You need to know about your account receivables, accounts payables and your cash flow. How can you function without knowing this information? As a small business person myself, I would want to know if I am broke or if I am seeing green dollars flying in the sky. And as a small business, I think you should want to know that information as well. If you are going to outsource your accounting, make sure you are able to get the information you need to know where your business stand and if your business is going to be in business for awhile.
